--- Provides assistance to research staff in studies using mouse models and wet lab experimentation in a molecular biology lab. Participate in collecting data, keeping records, conducting literature searches, technical research, analyzing data, and preparing reports with minimal supervision. Collects various forms of data pertaining to the research project or projects, which could include database information or hard files.
Duties:
- Actively participate in research studies using mouse models. Ability to collect blood, tissues, and fluid samples from animals (mice).
- Collects blood, tissue, or fluid samples from animals.
- Restrains animals for examination or injection.
- Administers pharmaceutical or biological products.
- Maintains records of all activities of the animal laboratory.
- Conducts wet lab research and analysis for research staff, to include but not limited to measure and weigh compounds and solutions, cell culture, molecular biology techniques, isolate, identify and prepare specimens, and collect samples and other research information.
- Collects various forms of data pertaining to the research project or projects, which could include database information and/or hard files.
- Conducts data analyses, interprets data, draws conclusions, and discusses with principal investigator.
- Keeps detailed logs of all research related projects or activities.
- Conducts literature searches.
- Prepares various reports pertaining to the data obtained and analyzed from experiments containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content that may be submitted for publication.
- Constructs tests or assists in the construction of tests.
- Collaborates with other researchers or colleagues in wet lab experimentation and/or analysis.
- Participates in meetings and presents research findings to fellow researchers and Principal Investigator.
- Participates in clinical research projects collecting data from patients and/or participants in a study.

Job Requirements
--- Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g. Biology, Psychology, Engineering, Computer Science, Sociology, or a related discipline aligned with the specific area of research or project focus) AND:
- 1 year of experience supporting research or working in a laboratory setting
Equivalency Substitution: Experience or a combination of education & related experience can be considered in lieu of degree. A one-to-one ratio is used to determine the number of years of experience required in place of a degree.
Skills:
- Detail Oriented
- Working knowledge of how to safely handle and dispose of biohazardous materials or chemicals following Federal, State and University regulations and guidelines.
- Ability to collect blood, tissues, and fluid samples from animals (mice).
- Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Ability to identify, address issues and deficiencies, and implement effective solutions.
- Ability to handle all types of animals.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.

- Comfortable with handling mice and colony maintenance.
Department Preferences: An American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Certification as an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT)
