As a Sr Product Developer, you will be an integral part of the Starbucks Canada product team. This role is broad in scope supporting all Food categories for Canada. You will work closely with cross-functional teams in Canada & US and our supplier network to deliver projects from inception to commercialization and throughout the product life cycle (inclusive of optimizations, resiliency and resourcing). This includes formula development, specification management and sensory work.

As an Sr. Product Developer, Food, you lead in 3 key areas:

  • Manage complex manufacturing trials from concept, pilot, scale up to launch (inclusive of store execution to customer) leveraging our commercialization process. Responsibilities include manufacturing assessment, testing and documentation. Project types include new product development, optimizations, resiliency, resourcing.
  • Apply technical knowledge and project learnings to create processing and product specifications that ensure products and processes meet quality assurance, food safety and risk assessment requirements
  • Create and translate culinary concepts and product briefs into food recipes and/or products that can be manufactured to deliver on product experience and operational requirements (inclusive of packaging and equipment).

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • Degree in Food Science, Nutrition or related scientific discipline
  • Experience in product development (formula development/optimization) from concept inception, pilots through to scale up of beverage and/or food products, understanding of Canadian Food Regulations, knowledge of customs/tariffs (5 years of experience with ideally 2 years of experience in manufacturing environment).
  • Strong sensory skills (all food), understanding of ingredient functionality and food safety
  • Knowledge of sensory, experimental design, statistics and consumer research methodologies
  • A broad-based thinker and effective collaborator - this role requires a partner who is agile, resilient and able to navigate multiple and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A team player that is self-motivated and flexible with broad based skills to support both product development with a quality/product experience mindset
  • Ability to travel (locally and internationally)
