As an Engineer Lead, you will contribute to Starbucks success through your support of the Payment Data Services team and your own efforts as a back-end engineer. You will be delivering a highly scalable and secure suite of components that drives millions of customer connections every single day!
Among your responsibilities will be to:
- Deliver and support high-value features that differentiate Starbucks in a competitive technical environment.
- Co-create and nurture sustainable & secure software lifecycle practices & patterns with the team.
- Lead, coach, and mentor software engineers in our constant drive to make Starbucks not just a good place to work, but a bridge to a better future.
- Collaborate closely with product-, technical-, and people-leaders to translate business requirements into actionable technical plans.
- Caretake the entire payments processing platform, researching new standards, practices, technologies, and tools.
- Establish yourself as a subject matter expert in the areas of Payment Data Management, payment processing, risk management, and secure application development.
We'd love to hear from people with:
- Experience leading software engineering teams through the delivery of complex systems securely and on-time.
- Strong back-end software engineering background using Microsoft technologies including C#, .NET, and Web APIs.
- 7+ years of experience in complex and scalable solution design, leveraging well-established design patterns and object-oriented coding practices.
- 7+ years of experience working with distributed systems and architectures, including service-oriented architectures, microservices, and event-driven pub/sub approaches.
- 5+ years of experience with cloud implementations in AWS or Azure that are Resilient and Highly Available.
- Experience running and maintaining a 24x7 production environment.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills, as well as the ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations.
- 10+ years as a software engineer, solving complex business challenges through secure and high-quality code.
- Experience with security and compliance (PCI, SOX).
- Experience with building and designing ecommerce card payments systems.

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
