I. JOB OVERVIEW
Job Description Summary: | The George Washington University (GW) Division of Safety & Operations and the GW Police Department; is seeking an experienced and innovative leader to manage and enhance operations within the Security Operations Center (SOC) GW Police Department aims to provide a safe and secure campus for all members of the university community through best-in-class technological and physical infrastructure, proactive assessment and analysis, and a caring team of professionals dedicated to upholding the university’s values with the highest degree of conscientiousness. The SOC serves as GW’s 24/7 central hub for safety communications, emergency response coordination, and situational awareness across all three campuses. Reporting to the Administrative Captain, The SOC manager will oversee daily operations, staff supervision, training, compliance, and the strategic development of the center. The candidate will bring deep operational knowledge, strong leadership capabilities, and a vision for integrating technology, training, and proactive risk management to support campus safety. This is a management position at the university that, in addition to leading a work unit, leads and supervises staff directly, makes hiring recommendations, collaborates with the Special Services Unit (SSU) to implement training, provides mentoring, coaching, counseling, manages performance, and determines future staffing needs. Responsibilities include:
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. This position is located primarily at the Mount Vernon campus, with occasional travel to the Foggy Bottom campus. This position is designated as Essential Onsite, which means this position performs essential core safety and operational functions and typically needs to be on campus even when access to campus is restricted. (For example: these employees reported to work daily throughout the pandemic – lab personnel, EHS staff, police officers, facilities staff among.) |

Minimum Qualifications: | Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |
