About the Role

Join the actuarial data team to design and own Uber's insurance data assets to lay the analytical foundation to support priorities that bend the insurance cost curve and drive measurable financial impact across the enterprise. The team sits within Insurance & Science and is responsible for Uber's core insurance data infrastructure — primarily two pillars: the Insurance data store pipeline and loss run data pipelines.

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

  1. Architect and maintain Uber’s core insurance data infrastructure, specifically focusing on our Insurance Data Store and Loss Run data pipelines.
  2. Drive monthly operational excellence by managing the end-to-end rotation of financial reporting and early-month loss run data ingestions.
  3. Partner with Actuaries, Data Scientists, and Engineering teams to improve the integrity, reliability, and granularity of insurance data logging and data pipelines.
  4. Execute continuous improvement initiatives by migrating legacy processes to modern frameworks to enhance data scalability and accuracy.
  5. Develop advanced analytical tools and monitoring systems to identify trends in insurance costs and support long-term risk management priorities.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

  1. Education: B.S. or M.S. degree in a quantitative field such as Math, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, Actuarial Science, or other quantitative fields.
  2. Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in a data-focused role (e.g. Data Scientist, Data Engineer, or Actuary).
  3. Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with a scripting language (Python or R) for data manipulation and statistical analysis.

---- Preferred Qualifications ----

  1. ACAS (CAS) designation preferred.
  2. Expertise in building automated data pipelines and applying statistical modeling to large-scale datasets.
  3. Demonstrated experience with big data frameworks like Spark, Hadoop, or Hive.
  4. Previous experience in property and casualty insurance, specifically working with insurance loss data and/or insurance pricing plans.
  5. Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights using tools like Tableau, or internal dashboarding frameworks.

For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$142,000 per year - USD$158,000 per year.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$142,000 per year - USD$158,000 per year.

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$142,000 per year - USD$158,000 per year.

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$142,000 per year - USD$158,000 per year.

For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
