About the role and team
The Product & Engineering organization is at the center of building innovative, scalable technology that powers the business globally. As the Senior Director, HR Business Partner, you will serve as the strategic people leader across Product Design, Product, and Engineering, partnering directly with C-suite and executive leadership to shape organizational capability, technical alignment, and chartering.
This is a high-impact, non-traditional HRBP role. You will influence core business strategy through the lens of talent, org design, and leadership capability. You will serve as a trusted advisor who brings deep credibility with technical leaders, constructively challenges conventional thinking, and drives enterprise-wide talent outcomes. .
The ideal candidate brings deep HRBP experience within commercial and product-oriented technology organizations, including teams developing customer-facing products, applications, platforms, or AI-enabled experiences. Leading a team of HR Business Partners, you will orchestrate cross-functional partnerships across multiple global tech hubs to deliver integrated, forward-looking people strategies for a complex, highly matrixed technology organization.
What you’ll do
- Executive Strategic Partnership: Serve as a trusted advisor to senior Product and Engineering executives (CTO, CPO, VPE), influencing business strategy, operating models, and organizational decisions through data-driven insights and constructive challenge.
- Organizational Alignment & Chartering: Partner directly with Product Design, Product, and Engineering leadership to align organizational structures, drive clear chartering, and evolve operating models that ensure seamless platform execution.
- Future-Ready Workforce Transformation: Lead strategic workforce planning and organizational transformation, anticipating the impact of AI, platform engineering shifts, and emerging technologies on technical capabilities and roles over a 2–3 year horizon.
- Technical Talent Density & Bench Building: Drive executive talent reviews, succession planning, leadership development, and retention strategies that continuously raise technical talent density across global engineering teams.
- Global Hub Orchestration: Manage complex tech charters across multiple global tech hubs, prioritizing strategic capability building and platform alignment over tactical execution.
- Team Leadership & COE Alignment: Lead and develop a high-performing team of HR Business Partners while collaborating seamlessly across Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, People Analytics, and Learning to deliver integrated people solutions.
- Organizational Diagnostics & Analytics: Leverage people analytics, organizational diagnostics, and market intelligence to solve complex business challenges and guide executive decision-making.n at the end of bullet points
Basic Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, with a proven track record of supporting Product Design, Product, and Engineering organizations within high-scale technology companies.
- Proven experience partnering directly with senior technology executives (e.g., CTO, Chief Product Officer, SVP/VP Engineering or Product) and influencing complex business and talent decisions through trusted advisory relationships.
- Demonstrated expertise managing diverse tech charters across multiple tech hubs and leading strategic alignment and platform-based organizational design.
- Experience building leadership capability through executive coaching, succession planning, organizational effectiveness, and technical talent strategies.
- Experience leading HR Business Partner teams and collaborating across HR Centers of Excellence to deliver enterprise-wide people strategies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep understanding of chartering and alignment within modern Product and Engineering operating models, including platform engineering and product design lifecycle.
- Experience leading AI-driven workforce transformation, including capability planning, evolving technical roles, and future workforce strategy.
- Track record of building high-performing technical organizations by increasing talent density, strengthening leadership benches, and improving retention of critical engineering talent.
- Unquestioned integrity, exceptional executive presence, business acumen, and influencing skills with the ability to challenge senior leaders, navigate ambiguity, and drive enterprise-wide outcomes.
- Experience transforming Engineering functions through AI-driven workforce transformation.
- Track record of crisis and scale leadership, demonstrating the ability to navigate major paradigm shifts and lead teams through disruption while maintaining credibility.
- Solid understanding of global HR programs, including compensation, performance management, organizational structure, and leadership development.
- High EQ, personal maturity, cultural awareness, and compassion.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills.

For New York City, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $288,000 per year - USD $320,000 per year.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $288,000 per year - USD $320,000 per year.
For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
