About the role and team
The Product & Engineering organization is at the center of building innovative, scalable technology that powers the business globally. As Director, HR Business Partner – Tech, you will serve as a strategic HR partner to senior leaders across Product, and Engineering, translating business priorities into effective people, organizational, and talent outcomes.
This is a hands-on HRBP leadership role for an experienced operator who understands how complex technology organizations work and can effectively navigate established people and talent frameworks. You will bring strong internal operating knowledge, sound judgment, and credibility with technical leaders, moving fluidly between strategic advisory and execution.
The ideal candidate brings deep HRBP experience within commercial and product-oriented technology organizations. Success in this role requires the ability to understand the business, diagnose organizational and talent needs, and partner across the People organization to deliver against them.
What you’ll do
- Strategic HR Business Partnership: Partner with senior Product, Design, and Engineering leaders to translate business priorities into practical people, organization, and talent plans and drive those priorities through execution
- Organizational Effectiveness: Advise leaders on organizational structure, team charters, roles and accountabilities, spans and layers, and operating effectiveness across complex technology organizations.
- Talent Management: Execute within established technology talent frameworks to lead talent reviews, succession planning, performance management, leadership development, and retention strategies for critical technical talent.
- Workforce Planning: Partner with leaders on workforce and capability planning, helping assess evolving business and technology needs and translating them into talent, skills, and organizational requirements.
- Leadership Advisory: Coach and advise senior leaders on organizational effectiveness, leadership transitions, team dynamics, performance, and complex talent decisions.
- Global Tech Partnership: Support organizations and technical charters spanning multiple global technology hubs, navigating geographic and organizational dependencies while ensuring consistent execution of people priorities.
- People Program Execution: Partner closely with Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, People Analytics, Learning, and other People teams to apply enterprise programs and frameworks effectively within the technology organization.
- Organizational Diagnostics & Analytics: Use people data, organizational diagnostics, and employee insights to identify issues, inform recommendations, and measure the effectiveness of people and organizational interventions.
- Change Execution: Support leaders and teams through organizational change, helping translate business decisions into clear people plans and ensuring effective implementation and adoption.
Basic Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including significant HR Business Partner experience supporting Product, Design, Engineering, or related technology on organizational, talent, and people decisions.
- Experience executing talent management processes for technical organizations, including talent reviews, succession planning, performance management, leadership development, and retention.
- Strong organizational judgment and demonstrated ability to navigate complex, global, and highly matrixed environments.
- Experience partnering across HR teams and effectively applying enterprise people programs and talent frameworks to meet business needs.
- Demonstrated ability to move between strategic advisory and hands-on execution, managing multiple priorities while maintaining strong operational discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting commercial or product-oriented technology organizations, including teams building customer-facing applications, digital products, platforms, or AI-enabled user experiences.
- Experience supporting technical workforce and capability planning as roles, skills, and technology needs evolve.
- Strong executive presence, judgment, business acumen, and influencing skills, with the ability to build credibility and effectively advise senior technology leaders.
- High EQ, personal maturity, cultural awareness, and compassion.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills.

For New York City, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $237,000 per year - USD $263,000 per year.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $237,000 per year - USD $263,000 per year.
For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
