Job Summary

The Institute for Behavioral Genetics, at the University of Colorado Boulder, is seeking a motivated and skilled Professional Research Assistant (PRA) to support ongoing research in the Molas Lab. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with animals, particularly mice, and a strong interest in neuroscience research.

Who We Are

The primary vision of the Molas Lab seeks to understand the neuronal circuits and mechanisms controlling novelty responses and adaptive learning processes with repeated exposures, by using a multidisciplinary research strategy with cutting-edge tools that integrate circuit mapping, gene expression analysis, photometry recordings, optogenetics, together with mouse behavioral paradigms.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Manage mouse colony maintenance, including animal husbandry and breeding protocols.
  • Perform animal procedures such as perfusion and behavioral testing.
  • Conduct laboratory techniques including brain tissue sectioning, immunostaining, fluorescent imaging, and genotyping.
  • Assist with stereotaxic surgeries and provide post-operative care.
  • Support laboratory operations, including ordering supplies, maintaining organization, developing standard operating procedures (SOPs), and managing EH&S documentation and laboratory logs.
  • Assist with data analysis and organization of experimental results.

What You Should Know

  • The selected candidate will be asked to commit to the position for a period of at least one and a half to two years.

What We Can Offer

  • This is a 100% FTE, benefits-eligible position.
  • The starting salary is $35,600 to $40,000 annually.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, or a related field.

What You Will Need

  • Prior hands-on experience in a research lab setting.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Familiarity with core Molas Lab techniques, such as:
    • Fiber photometry
    • Optogenetics and chemogenetics
    • Immunohistochemistry and viral tract tracing
    • Mouse behavior paradigms
  • Experience with data analysis and computational tools is a strong plus.
