Minimum Qualifications | Candidates for this position should hold a Ph.D. in Anthropology/Archaeology with an emphasis on zooarchaeology in Eastern North America and collections management. |
Position Summary | The Laboratory of Archaeology and the Georgia Museum of Natural History at the University of Georgia (archaeology.uga.edu, https://naturalhistory.uga.edu) invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Archaeological Collections to begin January 5, 2025. This is a full-time, twelve-month assistant research scientist position. This position will assist the Museum Director and Laboratory of Archaeology with taking a leadership role in the day-to-day strategic management of the preservation and conservation of archaeological and zooarchaeological collections curated at the Laboratory of Archaeology, applying for grants and seeking out contracts to sustain curation activities. They will create and implement communication, outreach, and education strategies and work closely with other staff to coordinate programmatic initiatives. This position will lead and innovate efforts for the care and growth of the archaeological and zooarchaeological collections according to best practices, the development of digital collections, and collaborative research data sharing. |
