Minimum Qualifications
Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field and at least 3-years’ experience supporting data systems
  • Experience leveraging software to meet organizational objectives including RStudio, Qualtrics, QuestionPro, eLC, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerBI, DrobBox, Slack, Zoom, and ClickUp
  • Experience with R or other similar data analysis programs for data cleaning and reporting
  • Ability to troubleshoot Windows OS and minor technology problems
  • Familiarity with complex audiovisual systems
  • Familiarity with management of sensitive data using encryption/SFTP protocols
  • Experience working with higher education and/or constituent relationship management
Position Summary
The Data and Technology Support Specialist plays a critical role within the Institute for Disaster Management (IDM), contributing to both technical operations and data workflow execution. This dynamic position works closely with management, stakeholders, and project teams to advance IDM initiatives and further research projects. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting basic IT issues, maintaining established data ecosystems using R scripts and data cleaning, generating reports, assisting research efforts, and operating audiovisual systems in key meeting spaces. This role helps sustain infrastructure and ensures smooth delivery of grant activities and community outreach programs by managing essential data and technology functions.

  • Ability to listen effectively and clearly communicate technical issues both orally and in writing.
  • Possess strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently, multitask and prioritize.
  • Understanding of data management principles, processes, and techniques.
  • Ability to clean and prepare datasets in order to support further analysis, report generation, or process improvement.
  • Competency with tools for managing surveys, reports, and communication.
  • Troubleshooting skills for common Windows, video conferencing, and device issues.
  • Ability to translate business objectives into IT/systems solutions.
  • Ability to interact effectively verbally and in writing with both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting and transport of AV equipment, computers, very large monitors, etc. – some of which can be very heavy and/or bulky.

Project Support
  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical audiences to execute technical solutions and processes that leverage platforms like RStudio, Qualtrics, QuestionPro, eLC, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerBI, DrobBox, Slack, Zoom, and ClickUp
  • Maintain established data environments that enable effective grant execution
  • Oversee daily collection, processing, encryption, and transfer of sensitive data to project partners
  • Ensure data integrity and consistent workflows to support informed decision-making, reporting, and research publication

Information Technology Support
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of Windows computers and connected devices
  • Install baseline software and configure new computers per established University and University System of Georgia guidelines for team expansion and lifecycle management
  • Operate and assist users with AV/conferencing systems in classrooms and conference rooms
  • Generate user guides to promote self-help solutions
  • Submit and coordinate remote troubleshooting and maintenance requests for the AV/conferencing systems
  • Serve as an on-site contact for tech and AV setup needs for recurring events
  • Assist in annual inventory accountability for all managed devices
  • Assist with upgrades for IT systems within IDM (including the change management process, training, and communication plans)

  • Prepare and distribute reports as necessary, utilizing branding guides and templates to maintain IDM’s professional image
