Position Summary
The Alexander Campbell King Law Library at the University of Georgia
School of Law is excited to announce a new opportunity for a Digital
Initiatives and Technology Librarian. This newly created position will play a pivotal role in managing and developing the School of Law’s institutional repository and archives. Additionally, this individual will collaborate with the Law & Technology Librarian to enhance and integrate technology into the Law Library’s instruction and services. The position reports directly to the Associate Director for Collection Services.

The Digital Initiatives and Technology Librarian is responsible for the management and development of the law school institutional repository and archives, and coordinating with the Law & Technology Librarian to integrate technology into the Law Library’s offerings to the School of Law community. The position is responsible for teaching for-credit legal research courses and informal instruction. The position contributes to research services and participates in the overall operation of the Law Library. Reports to the Associate Director for Collection Services.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
  • Prior role as an Academic Law Librarian
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Familiarity with institutional repositories;
  • Advanced legal research skills including ability to conduct in-depth research, synthesize research results, and deliver a high quality, comprehensive final product;
  • Understanding of legal technology and generative AI platforms;
  • Proven ability in project management and development and evaluation of services and programs;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with educational technologies and knowledge of legal research instruction design; and
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. An established record of service and teamwork.

LIBRARY ADMINISTRATION
  • Digital Initiatives and Archives Management: Responsible for the management and development of the law school institutional repository and archives, including the access, digitization, and preservation of historical print, born-digital objects, artifacts, photographs, and audio/video materials. Delegate, train and manage workflows for librarian, staff, and students using institutional repository platforms. Liaison with law school units to preserve materials of archival value and to utilize archival collections in the promotion of law school initiatives. Lead and provide project management on library grant opportunities for conservation, preservation, and digitization of library collections and law school archives. Implement projects, evaluate archival and digital materials, assist with exhibits, and communicate with digital library consortia and vendors. Participate in special projects related to collection services and resource access. PERCENTAGE OF TIME: 35
  • Research, Reference and Instructional Services: Provide synchronous and asynchronous informal legal research instruction and materials to the School of Law community as needed. Participate in research and reference services, particularly reference questions involving the institutional repository and law school archives. PERCENTAGE OF TIME: 20
  • Law & Technology Services: In coordination with the Law & Technology Librarian, integrate technology into the Law Library’s offerings to the law school community. Assist in administrating library technology applications. Maintain an extensive knowledge of emerging technologies, with an emphasis on law libraries, legal education, and the practice of law. PERCENTAGE OF TIME: 10
  • Law Library Operations: Contribute to teams and committees by planning, evaluating, assessing, marketing and implementing services, resources and technologies. Participate in professional, scholarly and service activities. Support initiatives in the Law Library and School of Law including implementation of strategic plans. PERCENTAGE OF TIME: 10
  • Professional Development and Other Duties: Participate in professional, scholarly and service activities. Maintain knowledge of emerging library and legal education trends. Acquire new skills and participate in other projects as needed. PERCENTAGE OF TIME: 10
