The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in The Grainger College of Engineering seeks applicants for an Academic Advisor position. This position is responsible for advising, as part of an accomplished team, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering's approximately 2,300 undergraduate students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Provide students and faculty with detailed information and assistance regarding, for example, degree/curriculum requirements, graduation check sheet, transfer course equivalencies, advance enrollment and registration, curriculum modification, adding/dropping courses, special college options, credit/no credit grading, technical electives, withdrawal/probation.

· Work closely with the department's Chief Undergraduate Advisor and the Undergraduate Advising Office Administrator. Exercise appropriate judgment in the approval of relatively routine requests and the referral of requests requiring more expertise.

· Assist in the development, editing of the ECE Undergraduate Advising Manual and responsible for continual updating of the ECE Undergraduate Advising Web Pages, including periodic reviews of the accuracy of the information and continued functioning of the links. Oversee the preparation and mailing of materials aimed at prospective students, admitted first year students, and transfer students.

· Coordinate visits by prospective students, both individual and in conjunction with campus and college recruiting events. Develop routine procedures for tours, including meeting requests for sitting in on classes meeting with current students.

· Coordinate first year student mentoring, help with scholarships and other matters of importance to undergraduates with others in the department and Advising Office.

· Responsible for scheduling all academic advising activities, including pre-registration meetings, coordinate peer advising, advising fair, transfer advising, meetings with first year students, mailings to students, and posting of advisor lists.

· Assist the Associate Head for Undergraduate Programs with preparation of information for drop/probation and for transfer advising, generation of statistics regarding performance of students, and implementation of special projects and programs.

· Assist the staff in the Undergraduate and MEng Academic Advising Office in the efficient and professional operation of the Undergraduate and MEng Academic Advising Office. Additional appropriate related advising duties, all of which are to further the mission of the department, may include, but not limited to, covering for others during breaks or absences and assisting during periods of unusual demand.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree

· Experience with organizing people, projects and the substantial flow of paperwork this office processes

· Experience with utilizing computers and databases in which student records reside

· Experience with composing and editing letters as well as complex documents (e.g. the advising manual)

· Experience with interacting positively with students and faculty on diverse matters

Preferred Qualifications:

· Prior understanding of engineering curricula

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

This is a full-time academic professional position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Applicants may be interviewed before the closing date; however, no hiring decision will be made until after that date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $50,000-$60,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. This position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
