Responsibilities*

  • Under general direction of faculty and/or senior research personnel, responsible for operation of a specialized laboratory of a faculty member within a department and/or field work and related data analysis for a research project.
  • Helps develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan.
  • Participates in formulating research methods and suggesting options for improving quality and recommending solutions.
  • Participates in computer database design and utilization and research/data analysis and suggests future improvements in data measurement.
  • Trains users in equipment operation and laboratory techniques, explains and demonstrates technology and equipment capabilities, operations limitations and outcomes.
  • Works independently on collection of data and analyzes research results.
  • Prepares reports and drafts manuscripts.
  • Has oversight for day-to-day operation of laboratory.
  • Schedules and maintains records of equipment/facility.
  • May supervise research support personnel.
  • May assemble, test calibrate, clean or make minor repairs to equipment.

Required Qualifications*

  • 1 to 3 years related experience.
  • Employees in this classification are required to have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position.
  • Employees typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree.

Desired Qualifications*

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in related field, Master's preferred.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
