About the experience:
The Civic Engagement Democracy Fellow will help with logistics, program planning, and support for our civic engagement initiatives, specifically democracy based programming which empower students to create change in their communities. The role will provide an opportunity to learn new skills and enhance existing ones, while supporting the office's professional staff and enhancing the campus community. This position will primarily focus on raising voter engagement and education, and election awareness and turnout on the University of Michigan campuses.
This position will provide support to the Civic Engagement Coordinator and assist the Office of Student Life's sponsored student organization, Turn Up Turnout.
The Turn Up Turnout Research Assistant will report to the Coordinator of Civic Engagement and the overall Student Life team, and can anticipate an average of 10 hours per week during the Fall 2025 & Winter 2026 semester.
Responsibilities*
- Serve as leader within Turn Up Turnout, Sponsored Student Organization
- Attend Dearborn campus specific meetings as well as larger steering meetings with the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, and Flint campus leaders
- In collaboration with OSL staff, conceptualize, plan, and execute programs and events.
- Liaise with on campus and off campus partners to plan and coordinate voter education efforts on campus
- Provide resources to students interested in civic, community, & democratic engagement
- Engage with leaders on other University of Michigan campuses for larger tri-campus initiatives and planning.
- Engage with students and leaders on all 19 Michigan colleges & universities in democracy based initiatives to support voter engagement, education, and turnout
- Work with OSL staff to develop and/or implement marketing to increase awareness of resources, programs, and events
- Remain non-partisan while engaged in the responsibilities of the position.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
- Enrolled student at UM-Dearborn,
- Ability to keep information confidential
- The desire to learn & educate fellow students.
- Commitment to non-partisan participation in all duties related to fellowship.
- Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel locally as needed to off-campus locations.
Desired Qualifications*
- Enrolled for the entirety of the 2025-2026 academic year at University of Michigan Dearborn.
Modes of Work

- Pay Rate: $16/hour
- Regular/Temporary: Temporary position
- Position End Date: August 25, 2026
- This position is Work Study eligible.
- This is a short term/temporary position that will complete at the end of the Winter 2026 semester.
- Preference given to students at the University of Michigan-Dearborn who plan to be enrolled for the entirety of the 2025-2026 academic year.
