Research Area Specialist Assoc (Term-Limited)

Responsibilities*
- Assist the principal investigator with managing the day-to-day operations of the primary research project.
- Ensure effective communication between the University of Michigan and lead community partners and staff members at the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers Foundation for Recovery Science and Education (NAATP/FoRSE), as well as among project Consultants, Community Advisory Board (CAB) members and other stakeholders.
- Help develop community advisory board and panel of community experts and promote engaged collaborations among members to provide guidance and co-contribute to the project
- Help with the development of the needs assessment survey, including entering the survey questions into an electronic platform (e.g., Qualtrics), formatting a database, and collaborating with NAATP/FoRSE staff to distribute the survey to Data Site providers.
- Clean, analyze and organize mixed methods needs assessment data.
- Organize and attend Community Advisory Board meetings to assist with remote technology and ensure smooth logistical operations.
- Plan co-learning and professional networking activities for the project.
- Responsible for Institutional Review Board (IRB) preparation, compliance and reporting (e.g., NIH, IRB), including but not limited to drafting Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPRs) and IRB protocols.
- Assist with mixed methods data analysis activities including preparing quantitative codebooks and variable coding, conducting quantitative (e.g., descriptive analysis) and qualitative (thematic coding) analysis.
- Coordinate, schedule, and document study-related meetings, including meetings with the internal study team, collaborators, co-investigators, Community Advisory Board, and other community and research partners.
- Develop protocols and procedures for study tasks, in collaboration with the research team.
- Lead participant recruitment and mixed methods data collection efforts for multiple public health and health services-related research projects. This will include interacting with participants, qualitative and quantitative data collection, and payment of participant incentives. Data collection activities include quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods approaches.
- Monitor and keep the research team informed on progress of the study including recruitment, enrollment, data collection, institutional approvals, and budgets.
- Work collaboratively with and maintain communication with other team members.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum 1-year related experience, such as demonstrated experience and/or expertise in conducting literature review, survey studies, qualitative interviews and focus groups, mixed methods data analysis and manuscript development.
- Ability to work with diverse teams of people in a diplomatic, collaborative and effective manner.
- Excellent communication skills in written English.
- Excellent organizational skills, professionalism, attention to detail, ability to work independently but also within a team, personable, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of research principles and practices, and ability to respect and protect confidential and highly sensitive information.
Desired Qualifications*
- Master's degree preferred in public health, health education/health behavior, or related field. Prior experience with participatory, qualitative and mixed methods analysis as they apply to health disparity research preferred.
- Prior experience with community-based participatory research (CBPR) and collaborations with community-based health professionals, including community health workers, preferred.
- Familiarity with community-engaged research initiatives to advance climate preparedness and/or substance use disorder treatment research preferred.
- Experience working on grant-funded multidisciplinary research teams.
- Experience coordinating with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and human subjects incentive program (HSIP)
- Experience working with individuals from diverse racial, cultural, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic, and linguistic backgrounds.
- Experience writing and editing communications (i.e., emails, meeting agendas and notes, summary documents) that are used with various audiences.
- Proficiency working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Proficiency in using software for qualitative and quantitative analysis and for data visualization
- Self-directed and detailed-oriented with excellent organization and time management skills.
Work Schedule
This position is 0.75 FTE, 30 hours per week, and is term-limited based on available grant funding through 08/31/2027, with potential for extension based on funding availability.
Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Additional Information
This is a term-limited appointment ending 08/31/2027, with potential for extension based on funding availability. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and you will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.
