Job Summary

The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a part-time (50%) Research Area Specialist-Intermediate to work on up 2 different studies focusing on suicide prevention. One is a 4-year NIH-funded study examining the signs of suicidal risk which takes place at the adult inpatient psychiatric settings at Michigan Medicine's University Hospital. The other is a 5-year VA-funded longitudinal clinical trial which takes place at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor. This study will use of an interventional smartphone app for Veterans who are experiencing a suicidal crisis.

In this role, you will work in an exciting environment which provides support for professional growth activities, opportunities to connect and collaborate with other research teams within the University of Michigan and the VA. Notably, you will be doing work that has a real impact on people's lives.

Responsibilities*

  • Conducting baseline and follow-up study assessments, as well as administering the intervention for a multi-site UM and/or VA-funded suicide prevention & intervention studies.
  • Data entry and processing tasks.
  • Attend study meetings and other administrative study needs.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's Degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position.
  • 4-5 years of experience in a related field.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's degree in Public Health (MPH), Social Work (MSW), Doctoral Degree or other management-related field (e.g., health administration) with experience working on a research study.
  • Clinical and/or research experience with patients who have had recent suicidal thoughts and/or attempts.
  • Experience conducting clinical research interviews & assessments.
  • Comfort discussing sensitive topics with vulnerable populations.
  • Experience working in emergency departments and/or psychiatric inpatient units.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum direction and seek guidance when appropriate.

Work Schedule

20 hours per week; early evening hours and Saturdays are required when there is a study need.

Work Locations

Ann Arbor, specifically at the North Campus Research Complex (NCRC).

Modes of Work

Additional Information

Driver's license and reliable transportation are a must.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings.
