Job Summary
Information and Technology Services (ITS) is seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated Senior Financial Analyst to join our Finance team. If you have a sharp analytical mindset and a passion for uncovering insights through numbers, we want to hear from you.
In this role, you'll analyze financial data and reports, compare results against budgets, and offer strategic recommendations to enhance ITS Recharge Rates. You'll support key decision-making by producing accurate forecasts, tracking monthly service costs, identifying opportunities for process improvement, and conducting audits to help manage rate expenditures and understand the true cost of ITS service activities.

This position reports directly to the Director of Finance and Human Resources.

Responsibilities*
- Be the key resource and provide analytical support for Auxiliary Recharge Rates for ITS services.
- Prepare financial reports, attend departmental meetings to provide feedback, and train staff in rate management.
- Track budgets, support strategic planning, and analyze cost variances to recommend rate compliance.
- Monitor business transactions for accuracy and perform variance analysis, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
- Partner with departmental management and service owners to enhance operational understanding and offer financial guidance.
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures; analyze and report on financial performance.
- Review monthly financial transactions, initiate corrections, and ensure proper financial controls.
- Develop business cases for financial requests or service improvements, outlining recommendations and action plans.
- Demonstrate problem-solving, accountability, and strong communication skills; assist with or lead projects and create ad hoc reports as needed.
- Contribute to strategic planning, coordinate team priorities, and support organizational goals through effective leadership and collaboration.
Required Qualifications*
- A Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance or related field with thorough understanding of accounting and financial principles.
- Five (5) or more years of progressive experience as an accountant, financial or business analyst, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis, including some experience with fund accounting or related experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate and work with a variety of individuals and units.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with word processing, financial spreadsheets, and collaboration applications.
- Deliver great customer service.
- Adapt to rapidly changing work assignments and priorities.
- Demonstrated experience/ability to:
- Develop complex financial models and analyze complex data.
- Interpret financial data and provide solutions.
- Communicate sensitive financial data and complex issues to a varied audience through advanced writing skills and/or clearly developed presentations skills - including preparation of business cases and proposals.
Desired Qualifications*
- Understanding of ERP systems including the ability to retrieve required data using data warehouse query tools.
- Experience in a higher education business setting, particularly knowledge of University of Michigan policies and systems.
- Knowledge of Auxiliary Fund accounting principles,
- Familiarity with Federal A-21 requirements.
