Job Summary
Information and Technology Services (ITS) at the University of Michigan is looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Windows Server Engineer to join our Systems Operations group. This is an exciting opportunity to help manage the Windows Server infrastructure for ITS and U-M campus units. You will manage a mix of on-premise physical and virtual machines and cloud compute instances. You will be an important member of the Windows Server Engineering group within Systems Operations, reporting to the manager of Windows Server Engineering.

Responsibilities*
As a Senior Windows Server Engineer, you'll help ensure the smooth operation and continuous improvement of our Windows server infrastructure. Your main responsibilities will include:
- Provide tier 3 operational support for on-premise and cloud-based platforms
- Investigate and resolve complex technical problems
- Engage with new technologies, contribute to important projects, and grow your skills in a collaborative environment
- Follow standard processes to ensure security compliance of systems and infrastructure
- Provide great service to build lasting customer relationships
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation
Required Qualifications*
- Minimum five years experience supporting Windows Server systems
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Computing or related field, or equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for system administration
- Experienced with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, Active Directory, Group Policy, and VMware virtual environments
- Familiarity with vulnerability management and configuration assessment tools
- Manage complex technical projects, including system migrations and infrastructure upgrades
Desired Qualifications*
- SIEM and log analytic tools like Splunk
- Device monitoring with Zabbix
- Ansible for configuration automation
- Spectrum Protect backup and restore
- Automated operating system deployment
- Hands-on experience with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Version control using Git and GitHub
- Experience using vendor APIs to automate tasks and build new features
- Microsoft Failover Clustering
- Formal ITIL change management
- Understanding of data privacy and compliance frameworks (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA, GDPR, PCI)

This position requires on-call availability and working during non-business hours. Details can be worked out with the Hiring Manager.
