Job Summary
The long-term goal of the Maduka Lab in the Department of Biomedical Engineering is to elucidate and control the immunometabolic dependencies of chronic diseases using biomaterials. We will explore stromal and immune cellular contribution to chronic inflammation in various phenotypes of heart failure, informing novel biomaterial therapeutic strategies.
We're looking for a highly motivated Senior Research Laboratory Technician to join the Maduka Lab at the University of Michigan's Department of Biomedical Engineering. This role is a great fit for someone with a strong background in flow cytometry who is eager to expand their skillset. The selected individual will be responsible for independently performing complex flow cytometry experiments, coordinating daily lab operations, and assisting with project logistics. They will also contribute to data analysis and interpretation. This position is a great opportunity to combine essential laboratory management duties with exciting scientific research, informing novel biomaterial therapeutic strategies for chronic diseases.

Responsibilities*
- Perform and analyze multi-color flow cytometry and cell sorting on complex biological samples from both human and animal models.
- Conduct routine and sterile cell culture of primary cells and cell lines, with a focus on immune and stromal cells.
- Perform rodent handling and surgical procedures for generating relevant disease models.
- Manage and maintain laboratory equipment, including daily QC, calibration, and troubleshooting for specialized instruments like flow cytometers.
- Develop, optimize, and document new protocols for a variety of techniques, including advanced imaging and immunometabolism assays.
- Oversee daily lab operations, including reagent and consumable inventory, ordering, and ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory standards.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior staff, students, and new lab members on established procedures.
- Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and research team to analyze and interpret experimental data, and to present results at lab meetings.
- Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and grant applications by compiling data and writing sections on methods.
- Actively participate in scientific discussions and stay current on new technologies and research in the fields of immunometabolism and biomaterials.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree and some years of immunology laboratory experience.
- Familiarity with high-throughput flow cytometry.
- Basic computer skills.
- Experience with routine statistical analyses.
Desired Qualifications*
- Experience with animal handling and cell culture.

Additional Information
**Note: This is a one year term-limited position with the possibility of extension based on need and funding.
