Who We Are

AI & Digital Health Innovation (AI&DHI) at the University of Michigan is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a Research Area Specialist, Intermediate.

AI&DHI goes beyond traditional medical care, focusing on discovery, implementation, and community health to personalize and enhance healthcare. This position plays a crucial role in managing recruitment activities within the MGI Data Collection group.

We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated, organized, and personable individual, with excellent communication and multi-tasking skills, to join our research team. This individual will help with recruitment activities and management of MY PART (Michigan and You - Partnering to Advance Research Together) study aiming to enroll participants into the Michigan Genomics Initiative (MGI) from a wide range of backgrounds, ensuring representation across different health and disease statuses. This approach supports the development of a robust biobank which encourages research across a variety of areas, including chronic diseases, mental health, and personalized medicine.

This role may also involve providing support to other ongoing and newly proposed studies within AI & Digital Health Innovation.

Individual will report directly to the Manager of Cohort Development.

Responsibilities*

This position will work with the MGI Data Collection Faculty Leads, Principal Investigators, and other research team members to manage recruitment, engagement, and retention of a large, diverse community of consented participants, as well as the creation, curation, and exposure of novel datasets enabling precision health research throughout campus.

Key job responsibilities include:

Project Coordination: Oversee day-to-day operations for enrollment, biospecimen management, and data stewardship; coordinate across clinical and laboratory environments to maintain efficient study workflows and high standards for data quality.

Participant Recruitment and Engagement: Lead efforts to approach and collect data from Michigan Medicine patients using a hybrid recruitment approach ? including enrolling and administering surveys to participants through an electronic platform, as well as collection of DNA materials.

Data/Biospecimen Management: Manage biospecimen collection, processing, logistics, and secure data entry to maintain regulatory compliance and accurate tracking systems.

Regulatory Support: Manage Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols, amendments, and reporting; ensure strict adherence to privacy, ethical, and compliance standards relevant to human genomics research.

Scientific Contribution: Assist with tracking grant proposals, data summaries, manuscripts, and research presentations.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in combined education and clinical research experience
  • 4 years of experience in a related field
  • Interest in clinical health research
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Superb interpersonal skills - comfortable speaking with healthcare providers and patients, as well as working independently as a member of a research team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in both verbal and written form

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
