Job Summary
- Dr. Paula Anne Newman-Casey?s lab is looking for a medical student for a year-long paid research position to serve on clinical and health services research projects in ophthalmology. This is an in-person position at the Kellogg Eye Center, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. Newman-Casey?s lab works to improve access, quality of care and medication adherence for patients with glaucoma. The goals will be for the student to get exposure to clinical research in ophthalmology with opportunities to participate in the recruitment of patients, perform clinical research studies, work in a research team, publish manuscripts, and to present research at meetings. Responsibilities*
- Assist study team with aspects of clinical research coordination including but not limited to conducting study visits with study participants including participant recruitment, informed consent and administering surveys
- Data entry into research databases requiring skillful attention to detail
- Work collaboratively by maintaining good rapport and communication with research teams and faculty, as well as patients and clinic staff
- Staff members are expected to work independently when appropriate and regularly exercise good judgment in setting priorities, resolving operational problems, applying policies, procedures, and methods, while maintaining the strictest of confidentiality at all times

Required Qualifications*
Medical Student Class-Level M2/M3/M4 or Medical Degree seeking residency gap year
Collaborative and collegial, demonstrates integrity
Respectful and compassionate attitude
Strong computing skills
Excellent patient customer service
Receptive to feedback and willing to grow in this position, which involves learning many new tasks
Able to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adhere to strict confidentiality policies
Previous work experience
Desired Qualifications*
1+ yrs experience in research activities The ideal candidate will show personal initiative in managing work assignments by organizing, prioritizing work in coordination with the PI, and completing tasks on deadlines. The candidate must be able to work independently, work and communicate with the larger team, and regularly exercise judgment in the application research protocols. This position requires strong interpersonal skills and a person who is approachable and compassionate and has the ability to think on one's feet in sensitive or difficult situations. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
