Position Summary
The Taylor laboratory uses a variety of biochemical, molecular, cellular, and physiological approaches to identify the mechanisms that contribute to cardiovascular and neuromuscular diseases such as hypertension, atherosclerosis, cardiomyopathies and neurological disorders. Many projects focus on the identification and characterization of the signaling and cytoskeletal proteins that regulate mitochondrial homeostasis. Responsibilities will include general maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies; maintenance and analysis of genetically modified mouse models; the analysis of RNA, DNA, and protein from tissues and cultured cells and the generation of purified proteins for drug screening. The technician will be required to maintain an accurate laboratory notebook and to periodically summarize and present data to the rest of the laboratory during scheduled lab meetings. Responsibilities may also include minimal supervisory duties of temporary employees and students working transiently on related projects.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Basic knowledge and experience with molecular biology techniques. Willingness to work with lab animals.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience in the following: cell culture, western blots, basic cloning techniques, RNA and DNA isolation and analysis, PCR, animal handling, tissue processing, biochemical techniques (i.e. protein purification), and six months equivalent lab experience
