Responsibilities will include conducting electrophysiology experiments on various cell types expressing TMEM16A and TMEM16B channels, cell culture, tissue preparations, and molecular biology. Must have a Ph.D. and preferred candidates will have 5 years of postdoctoral experience studying ion channels and their regulation. The ideal candidate will have experience working with TMEM16A and TMEM16B channels. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, be organized, and willing to present to contribute to collaborations within the lab.
Job Summary
Conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation. Prepares and crafts various documentations of research results into manuscripts, proposals, grant applications, and presentations. Trains undergraduates and research technicians. Manages laboratory policies and coordinates project development in collaboration with other specialists.
This position was created to perform specialized electrophysiological research requiring advanced expertise in ion channel physiology. The Research Scientist designs, conducts, and interprets electrophysiological experiments and related studies on ion channels, including TMEM16A and TMEM16B. The position is responsible for preparing and organizing research findings for dissemination through manuscripts, proposals, presentations, and progress reports. The Research Scientist trains and mentors undergraduate students, research technicians, and other laboratory personnel in experimental techniques and best practices. The role also includes maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards, contributing to the development and implementation of laboratory procedures, and coordinating project development and research collaborations within the laboratory and with academic partners.
Must be able to sit, stand, and work at a computer or laboratory bench for prolonged periods of time. Requires fine motor skills to perform delicate experimental procedures and operate laboratory instruments. Must be able to ambulate across the building complex and University campus, and occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds.
