The University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Research Technician in the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology. The Research Technician will join a team doing clinical and translational research in asthma and other pediatric lung diseases. The incumbent will be primarily tasked with processing research samples including blood and small tissue samples, extracting DNA and RNA following standard protocols, organizing and biobanking samples, performing analytical tests such as PCR and gel electrophoresis, updating files and reports, ordering laboratory supplies to maintain inventory, and other routine procedures in compliance with laboratory policies and regulations. The successful candidate will have previous wet laboratory experience. Candidates with previous experience isolating/handling RNA and DNA are particularly encouraged to apply. Good organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, ability to follow protocols, keep accurate records, and troubleshoot are all particularly important. Candidates must be able to work independently on daily tasks. Advanced computer skills are a plus. This position is completely in person and on site. This position is located at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment. Also, a current TB test will be required as a condition of employment.
College courses in biology, biochemistry, genetics, biomedical engineering, statistics, or related scientific field is preferred. Wet laboratory experience and experience isolating/handling RNA and DNA are desired. Advanced computer skills are a plus.
