Laboratory Research Technician IV

The Kamil Lab within the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Technician IV with a bachelor's degree and at least three years of relevant research experience. The Kamil laboratory studies diverse aspects of the molecular interplay between viruses and their hosts, focusing primarily on human cytomegalovirus (aka HCMV or CMV). CMV is the #1 infectious cause of birth defects. The ideal candidate will have hands on experience with many of the following: virus cultivation and titration; viral neutralization assays; cell-based screening using high-content imaging systems such as the IncuCyte; western blotting; immunoprecipitation; affinity chromatography and protein purification from bacterial and eukaryotic expression systems; mammalian cell culture and sterile techniques; bacterial genetics; PCR and qPCR; recombinant DNA and Sub-cloning; DNA/RNA isolation; gel electrophoresis; RNA-seq or whole-genome sequencing; and mouse models of viral infection, immunization , or immune response analysis.
Job Summary
Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.
The successful candidate will be able to independently design experiments, interpret data, and troubleshoot methods with minimal oversight. In addition, they will assist the Laboratory Manager with maintaining inventories, support lab operations, and help train and supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Strong record-keeping and communication skills are essential.
Will spend most of the day moving about the lab. No heavy lifting is required.
