The Pitt Biospecimen Core (PBC) is an institutional resource for collection, processing, and disbursement of biospecimens dedicated to serving the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Faculty in meeting their research needs. PBC Labs are located at UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Magee-Womens, UPMC Shadyside and UPMC Children’s Hospitals. Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work. Reviewing the Operating Room schedule to identify cases eligible for research projects. Working closely with the Department of Pathology, the incumbent will collect, process, disburse, and store human biological materials based on established protocols. Processing may include but is not limited to aliquoting blood products, gross dissection of tissue, and PBMC isolation. Routine data entry into specimen inventory system for the collection, receipt, disbursement, and storage of each sample. Maintains and oversees supply inventory and ordering. Pulls samples to fill requests based on PBC customer projects.Utilizes personal protective equipment and ensures adherence to all applicable protocols and guidelines. Excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, adept to multi-tasking, and organizational skills are necessary to be successful in this position. Rotation at other PBC labs is required.
Job Summary
Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.

Walking to and from locations within hospital. Standing and sitting for long periods of time at the bench. Reading small print on tubes, cryovials, and labels. Lifting up to 30 pounds.
