Research Scientist

The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is seeking a dynamic and motivated researcher with a strong background in cancer research, regenerative medicine, and tissue engineering and a PhD biomedical science. The scientist will design, execute, analyze, interpret, document, and prepare for publication experiments and their products in support of the laboratory’s mission. The candidate will bring expertise in single-cell RNA sequencing, whole genome transcriptome and proteome, multi-dimensional flow cytometry, in vivo murine tumor models, in vitro models and CRISPR editing. The successful applicant will have a proven track record of taking initiative in pursuing new and independent ideas, adopting and optimizing emerging techniques, and thriving in a collaborative team environment. The position will require a high degree of independence in design, execution, and analysis/interpretation of experiments. In addition, this role calls for partial effort in managing the logistics and operations of the laboratory as well as training and, together with and at the direction of the laboratory head, mentoring and supervising more junior laboratory members, clinical fellows and medical students. Job Summary
Conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation. Prepares and crafts various documentations of research results into manuscripts, proposals, grant applications, and presentations. Trains undergraduates and research technicians. Manages laboratory policies and coordinates project development in collaboration with other specialists.
Must be able to work independently across multiple projects at a time. Must be highly analytical and organized. Able to work with collaborators across institutions.
Light: Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
