UCSUR is one of the four main university centers within the University of Pittsburgh. Established in 1972, UCSUR serves as a resource for communities, researchers, and educators interested in the basic and applied social & behavioral sciences. We conduct interdisciplinary research to improve communities and address social, economic, and health policy issues.
SQR provides survey and qualitative research services with a highly experienced staff of survey professionals, trained interviewers, data management specialists, and qualitative methodologists. Our team is able to carry out any or all phases of a survey research project, including sample design, questionnaire design, data collection, data processing, analyses, and reporting.
Job Summary
Assists with and adheres to Institutional Review Board (IRB) renewal, modification, and approved protocols. Recruits research subjects and conducts interviews and research assessments.
Assists with the collection of data for a University Research Center through phone calling with survey protocols and/or qualitative data collection through focus groups and interviewing. Must be proficient in writing and speaking English and Spanish. Proficiency with Window’s based computers is preferred. Training on each protocol is provided by a supervisor. Support and oversight are provided by managers during the data collection process. Tasks include translation of Spanish into English and English to Spanish including interviewing, survey and interview protocols, creating flyers, and other written tasks. Additional tasks will include data entry, data cleaning, and potentially attending meetings with project teams. Helping to facilitate reaching the Spanish-speaking community is a plus. Having a flexible schedule and being able to multi-task are preferred. This is a hybrid position with some days in the office and some days working from home but must have access to reliable internet. Includes weekend and evening hours.
Essential functions of the position:
1. Works with the Survey and Qualitative Research Program team to conduct interviews for research projects via phone, online, and in-person. This will require attention to detail and accuracy, as well as the timely application of established protocols. The ability to multi-task is essential.
2. Assist UCSUR staff in a wide range of tasks, including Spanish/English translation of project-related information (e.g., interview transcripts, project flyers, phone messages, etc.).
3. Must have sufficient computer typing and listening skills. Access to reliable and sufficient internet is necessary for the position to be hybrid.
Duties are primarily sedentary.
