Laboratory Research Technician IV- Y Lee Lab

The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Immunology, is seeking a full-time technician. The Lee lab investigates cell-cell communication networks in tissue microenvironments by using a novel spatial sequencing platform. There are opportunities for independent projects within the mission of the laboratory, based on the applicant’s skills and goals. Applicants that are interested in having their own independent project are encouraged to apply.
The applicant will support the function of the laboratory, assist scientists conducting experiments, and perform independent experiments, in cellular and molecular immunology. The applicant should have experience with flow cytometry and basic immunological techniques. The applicant should be very eager to learn new techniques and improve existing techniques.
Responsibilities for this position include:
1. Perform independent laboratory work and experiments, including analysis and interpretation of murine and human cell culture experiments. These will involve cell isolation from organs, immunofluorescence staining, flow cytometry, cell sorting, sequencing library preparation, tissue cutting, and short-term cell culture. Writes reports and summaries of findings.
2. Prepares and interprets data for presentation to the group, publications, and grants.
3. Assist with training of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the lab.
4. Contributes to writing grant proposals, performs literature searches, writes manuscripts.
5. Oversee mouse colony management, breeding, genotyping, and record-keeping.
6. Maintain and order supplies as needed.
Other required skills: Excellent organizational and planning skills, and attention to detail, are essential. Strong mathematical skills related to the biological sciences, including dilutions, ratios, concentrations, etc. Must keep detailed and accurate records. Excellent writing and verbal communication. Proven ability to work independently and in collaborative teams is a plus.
Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or related field plus three (3) Years of Professional Years of Experience is required in immunology/microbiology/molecular biology or other related field. Knowledge of mathematical and chemical principles. Must be highly organized and efficient with their time. Must maintain professional demeanor and work well with others. Must be able to prioritize daily duties.
Job Summary
Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.

The applicant should have experience with flow cytometry and basic immunological techniques. The applicant should be very eager to learn new techniques and improve existing techniques.
Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
