We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Laboratory Research Technician to support ongoing research focused on hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and HBV-related liver cancer and neuropathy. The successful candidate will contribute to projects involving both animal models and advanced in vitro systems, including organoids and tissue-on-chip platforms. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic, collaborative research environment at the interface of virology, cancer biology, neuropathology, and drug development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and assist with experiments using animal models of HBV infection and liver cancer.
  • Maintain and manage mouse colonies, including transgenic and specialized disease models.
  • Conduct molecular, cellular, and virological assays (e.g., molecular cloning, PCR, qPCR, ELISA, immunostaining, immunohistology, Southern, Northern, and Western blots, viral infection assays, NGS).
  • Establish and maintain liver organoid cultures and/or tissue-on-chip systems.
  • Assist in experimental design, data collection, analysis, and record keeping.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional biosafety and animal care regulations.
  • Contribute to laboratory organization, reagent preparation, purchasing, and general lab maintenance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, virology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 3 years of relevant laboratory research experience.
  • Hand-on experience with animal handling and related procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of molecular and cellular biology techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with one or more HBV-related animal models, including:
    • HBV transgenic mouse models
    • AAV-HBV mouse models
    • Humanized mouse models
    • Hydrodynamic injection mouse models
    • Hamster models
  • Experience with liver or brain organoid culture or tissue-on-chip systems.
  • Familiarity with virology techniques and biosafety practices.

Job Summary

Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.

Essential Functions

The candidate will spend majority of time sitting or standing at a lab bench, cell culture hood, and sitting at desk with computers.

Physical Effort

Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
