$19.96 - $27.94The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE:Research technician in a laboratory aimed at understanding the mechanistic basis of bacterial nucleoid organization in stressful environments, and at developing engineered living materials. Candidate will be developing new experimental assays to develop engineered microbes with optical properties via mineralizing high-index-of-refraction coatings around themselves, and measuring and analyzing their light-focusing ability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Bacteria growth and induction
- Engineered bacteria will be cultured, grown, and induced to create optically active mineralized coatings. 10%
Development of new growth conditions
- New bacterial growth and induction conditions will be developed to create engineered bacteria with new optical properties. 10%
Microscopy
- Engineered bacteria will be analyzed using light and fluorescence microscopy to analyze their optical properties. 20%
Data analysis
- Microscopy data will be analyzed to quantify the optical properties of the engineered bacteria. 20%
Microbiology assays
- Engineered bacteria will be analyzed through staining, growth curves, preparation for spectroscopic analysis, etc. 15%
Writing
- Results will be written up into manuscript for submission to research journals. 25%
QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.A. or B.S. degree and research experience in biology or comparable experience.
- Candidates must be organized and have the ability to work well both independently and with others.
