The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE:
Provides routine technical support for a Neuromuscular research lab. Collects, analyzes, and processes laboratory samples or research data. Performs a variety of tests, using routine techniques and methods. Assists in report writing. Sets up equipment and materials for course instruction. Collaborates on the design of new projects, techniques or methods. Full-Time Research Technician I to work in a basic science laboratory and conduct research relating to work on genetic muscle diseases.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Process samples including tissue obtained from transgenic mice for histological and molecular analysis using a variety of assays, the protocols for which have already been set up in the lab.
  • Plan and perform a variety of standardized lab tests, analyses, and observations. Set up equipment and apparatus.
  • Prepare test specimens and calculate and record results. Keep accurate records and adhere to standard lab practices.
  • Calendar Management and coordination of activities. Provides updates to include, but not limited to, scheduling meetings, reporting cancellations, deadline notification, and background on meeting participants.
  • Extract data from various sources, process data following well defined methods, and present data.
  • Clean and perform routine maintenance and equipment.
  • Assist with developing, devising, and modifying methods and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's degree Health Science, Biology, Chemistry or other science related field of study preferred.
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • An understanding of medical or laboratory terminology, experience in a large complex health care or academic setting preferred.
  • Previous instruction in theoretical aspects of cell and molecular biology is highly desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and experience with basic cell culture techniques, DNA extraction, and PCR preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff and faculty of all levels preferred.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures preferred.
