The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE
The Sr Business Intel Developer, Advancement has primary oversight, responsibility, and leadership for the implementation and management of all reporting systems for University Advancement, with the overarching responsibility of overseeing information and business intelligence assets and delivery. The Sr Business Intel Developer functions include designing, developing, directing, testing, implementing, and maintaining policies and procedures in support of all Advancement reporting systems.

The Sr Business Intel Developer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, as well as the Advancement Salesforce ascend support team, to ensure the reporting systems are continuously optimized and serve as the best means to provide customers with accurate and timely data and reports. They will act as functional project manager and application administrator in the design, testing and implementation of new system functionality and enhancements. They will create and review data audits and quality processes for the validation of deliverables. Also, they will interact with university finance and business managers to assess needs and coordinate resources.

The Sr Business Intel Developer will maintain a keen awareness of the goals and activities of the University of Rochester and its peer institutions.

Together with the Senior Director of Advancement Information Services, the Sr Business Intel Developer will build upon the strategic vision of the Associate Vice President of Advancement Services to achieve business results. This position may mentor and/or train new or junior staff members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Business Intelligence and Application Administration

  • Serves as the lead reporting and application administrator for Salesforce ascend reporting, including upgrades, patching, and configuration.
  • Serves as a systems administrator for Salesforce ascend reporting infrastructure, supporting the business intelligence, applications, configuration, and troubleshooting of the database.
  • Responsible for communicating problems and resolutions with the Senior Director.
  • Discusses data integrity issues or concerns with Advancement IS team for resolution and helps to ensure data entry practices are aligned with documented policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for development of data queries of Salesforce data tables to verify the data displayed on reports is accurate and conforms to business rules.
  • Ensure reports and dashboards conform to Advancement reporting standards and have been thoroughly tested.
  • Outlines strategies for the development and maintenance of environments that support the Salesforce ascend report writing application.

Report Development and Optimization

  • With considerable latitude for independent judgement, leads design, development, and testing sessions with cross-functional advancement staff and teams to capture requirements and data for report development.
  • Develops/reviews report specifications and ensures requirements are met across all functional areas.
  • Develops, writes, and maintains standard reports within the reporting system and provides guidance on the functionality of ad hoc reports developed by the Advancement reporting team.
  • Translates business requirements into report objects with appropriate levels of security.
  • Develops, reviews, and implements new/ongoing reporting functionality and solutions to support Advancement’s goals.
  • Develops and enables reporting solutions to interact with cloud-based solutions.
  • Analyzes and synthesizes broad and complex information gathered from Advancement staff and leadership to develop new reports and reporting systems as needed.
  • Designs, develops, and implements complex dashboard reports and visualizations.

Data Integrity and Security Oversight

  • Organizes, documents, and streamlines the various reporting methods utilized by Advancement Services.
  • Writes detailed functional specifications and prepares appropriate testing scripts for new system functionality and enhancements.
  • Directs testing of system modifications and solicits customer approvals.
  • Investigates reporting application/system concerns by monitoring logs to ensure proper functionality.
  • Communicates issues with University IT as appropriate and conducts repairs accordingly.
  • Tests reports for accuracy and data integrity.
  • Leads activities supporting the development and maintenance of security architecture and workflow automation within the reporting application.
  • Ensures conformance to Advancement/university standards and procedures by reviewing and preparing necessary paperwork and documentation.
  • Prepare and maintain data models and reporting policies when necessary.
  • Review standards and documentation to ensure reports, dashboards, etc. conform to those standards.

Customer Service

  • Works with Advancement Learning & Development to ensure new processes, enhancements, and other modifications to the reporting application are properly documented and disseminated to customers.
  • Responsible for conducting meetings with customers to ensure their reports are developed to meet their needs.
  • Develops solutions to address Advancement’s reporting needs such as additional training, preferred report types, documentation, reporting structure, etc.
  • Makes recommendations to the Senior Director for additional training, documentation, and other adjustments as needed.

Professional Development & Leadership

  • Attends conferences and user group/peer meetings to ensure Advancement stays current with industry’s best practices.
  • Serves as a mentor and change management lead; guides and trains new/junior staff.
  • May supervise junior reporting staff members and monitor work.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • Advanced Degree Preferred
  • 5 years of relevant/comparable experience Required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience Required


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience with Salesforce, SQL Server, or Oracle Preferred
  • Experience with developing reports and dashboards with one or more Business Intelligence tools, such as PowerBI, Business Objects, MicroStrategy, Qlik, IBM Cognos, Tableau Preferred
  • Experience in higher education field, medical or healthcare industry preferred
  • Experience with project management methodologies from planning through implementation preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required
  • Proven customer-oriented approach to problem solving required
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time and meet required deadlines required
  • Contribute individually and as a technical lead on the team that manages multiple business environments, interface with user communities to translate business needs into solution requirements required
  • Proficiency with reporting tools IBM Cognos and Tableau preferred
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly preferred
  • Ability to translate business needs into solution requirements preferred
  • Knowledge of implementing expressions and business logic within an object-oriented environment preferred
  • In depth experience and developmental knowledge with SQL programming preferred
  • Familiar with general contents of Privacy Act, Freedom of Information Act, HIPAA and FERPA. preferred


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Certified Tableau Specialist (Tableau Desktop Associate Level 1, Level 2) upon hire preferred
  • Workday Report Writer curriculum certificate upon hire preferred
