The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE
Provides technical services that ensure stable services for faculty, staff, students and clinicians whose business functions rely on low-voltage or wireless services in a 24x7 environment. Works collaboratively with others in providing telephony and network technologies, and recognizes the importance of those services in administrative, academic and clinical operations. Performs moves, adds, change requests and trouble tickets related to telephony, data services, extended networks and special applications. Maintains accurate cable plant records and applies CAD drawings to the required locations. Updates, evaluates and monitors cable plant documentation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs moves, adds, change requests and trouble tickets submitted by University departments related to telephony, data service, extended networks and special applications.
  • Performs physical installation of LAN and data equipment, rearrangement or disconnection of NEC voice and network systems, and utilizes a variety of hand tools and test equipment.
  • Maintains accurate cable plant records and applies CAD drawings to the required locations.
  • Works collaboratively with other technicians and responds pro-actively to Engineering and Project Manager Site specific instructions.
  • Manages and documents daily service generated trouble tickets.
  • Demonstrates consistent, timely turnaround of completed service requests with accurate time and materials billing information.
  • Updates, evaluates and monitors cable plant documentation and adheres to the department's standards for identification of connections at the user site’s CERs, BDFs and MDFs, which equates to accurate and timely record keeping.
  • Supports the UR Tech Store and the IT Equipment Recovery Program completing scheduling, following security protocols and completing routine pick-ups and deliveries.
  • Maintains daily delivery schedules for product and recyclables.
  • Assists in monitoring and documenting inventory levels and escalates to a senior team member or manager when appropriate.
  • Responds proactively to warehouse scheduling needs caused by peak work demands.
  • Adapts to staffing shortages and needs in support of Install, Repair, Warehouse and the Asset Recovery Program.
  • Works collaboratively and responds proactively to Project Manager and senior technician’s site-specific instructions.
  • Leads the work of contractors and creates a simple work site schedule that involves completing tasks within a described timeline.
  • Participates in on-call rotation duties involving ad-hoc overtime and after-hours call-ins, critical repair and critical install work to support essential operations.
  • Works with remote technical and engineering resources to trouble shoot and remedy after-hour service issues.
  • Keeps abreast of current telephony, network and LAN technologies through continuing education, journal review, web searches, on the job training and formal seminar opportunities.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 1 year of practical experience in building and/or maintenance of electronic instruments, apparatus or equipment required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Safe use of hand tools and test equipment required
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, lift up to 50 pounds and transition through different workspaces throughout the day required
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, such as closets, ceilings, crawl spaces, pipe chases and mechanical rooms required


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Valid New York State driver's license required
