The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

A senior research specialist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Alayna Loiselle, in the Department of Orthopaedics and the Center for Musculoskeletal Research. The Loiselle lab utilizes cell and molecular biology, bioengineering, and next-generation sequencing techniques, complemented by animal models to uncover mechanisms underlying soft tissue fibrosis.

This position requires prior experience with mouse handling, tissue harvest and sample processing, molecular biology skills (PCR, qRT-PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, cloning etc.), bioinformatics, data analysis/interpretation, excellent organizational skills, and careful attention to detail. Interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work both independently and within a team environment. Excellent organization skills and time management. Must be willing to work with mice. Familiar with R and Microsoft Office software.

This position also offers mentoring opportunities and co-authorship on published manuscripts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Designs independent pilot research projects, contributes to writing of research proposals, co-authorship of scientific publications, application of new grants, and protocols
  • Analyzes and evaluates experimental data and interprets results within the scope of the study; assesses the importance of findings in relation to the general research program.
  • Supervise and trains new lab members: any new rotating/permanent graduate students, as well as new post-doctoral candidates and visiting scientists requiring training in laboratory methods and procedures.
  • Performs molecular biological techniques, develops and validates new protocols for cell/molecular biology assessment of tissue
  • Dissection of mouse tissues, sectioning of paraffin or frozen tissues, histological staining, immunohistochemistry, and in situ hybridization of samples.


MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Doctoral degree with major course work in the field of assignment and a minimum of 2-5 years of relevant postdoctoral training.
