The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

The Center for Business Engagement supports corporate engagement including the funding of University programs and activities, and partnerships for basic and applied research ultimately leading to the development of intellectual property and technology transfer.

Reporting to the Executive Director of the CBE, the Research and Business Development Assistant Director will cultivate knowledge and understanding of UR programs of interest to corporate partners and develop and execute strategies to advance corporate support. The primary responsibility is to maintain, develop, and expand the CBE philanthropic and corporate program membership portfolio, including the Institute of Optics Industrial Associates program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide discovery, analysis, tracking, and summary reporting of corporate priorities and opportunities. Develop strategy for qualifying prospects and matching business needs to appropriate UR and URMC programs for support, including working closely with faculty and staff. Search for corporate RFPs and invitations for gifts, as well as opportunities that are not advertised, for programs, fellowships, and other support for the University.
  • Develop and execute outreach strategy for corporate connection and support including cold calls, meetings, alumni connections, campus visits, and letters of inquiry. Write, submit, and track detailed and carefully constructed proposals, coordinating with faculty and staff, including Advancement, college administrators, and other departments as necessary. Coordinate efforts across UR schools and departments.
  • Manage aspects of corporate membership programs such as the Institute of Optics Industrial Associates program, including understanding and executing the strategy set forth by the Institute Director, the dean of the Hajim School, and Advancement leadership. Correspond with members and develop and coordinate proposals. Track and report on annual renewals and retention.
  • Develop and execute marketing strategies and identify and qualify prospects both for membership and for other support of the University.
  • Provide discovery, analysis, tracking, and summary reporting of leading programs across the University of Rochester and University of Rochester Medical Center. Maintain portfolio of programs of potential interest to corporate partners. Write detailed briefs and biographies.
  • Research, compile, and maintain data on major existing and prospective UR and URMC corporate donors and partners. Maintain tracking system for all CBE activity, including OASIS data for CBE contacts, meetings, proposals, gifts, and sponsored research, and produce timely, comprehensive, and accurate analytics and reports as requested. Track IORA data for sponsored research. Work with colleagues in Advancement, Finance, ORPA, and within schools as required to solve any issues.
  • Provide support for CBE as needed including the development of meetings, proposals, presentations, analytics, reports, correspondence, campus visits, and expense and contact reports. Manage financial reconciliation and gift processing.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience in higher education preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Fluency with scientific and medical information and trends, understanding of corporate business needs, and the ability to converse with faculty and companies to distill and evaluate opportunities.
  • Superior analytical, critical reasoning, time-management, documentation, and communication skills (particularly writing); tenacious commitment to detail, organization, and effective follow through; and the ability to use CRM and other database tools to track, steward, and report on University and corporate activity.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and exercise independent judgement.
  • Effective team player with a collaborative approach to problem-solving and comfort in navigating ambiguity.
