Job Description
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is looking for a postdoctoral research associate in transportation engineering. This is a full-time position. The researcher will be primarily contributing to sponsored and other research projects from conception to completion ensuring completion is on time and on budget.
The successful candidate will conduct research on emerging technology safety and behavioral uptake. The projects will span the evaluation of micromobility policies and practices, managing safety datasets, and economic and behavioral analysis of consumer uptake of emerging technologies in transportation system. The position will support the successful implementation of at least two sponsored projects in this area. The position will also require limited educational support related to transportation systems.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for coordinating graduate student team members as needed.
- Must be able to work cross-functionally and communicate to all parties internal and external
- Assist in supervision of graduate research assistants and research associates on research projects.
- Assist in education roles as needed.
- Conduct Research, perform various tasks associated with contracted research as well as new research initiatives, and disseminate the results via publications.
- Assist the Principal Investigator in preparing presentations, reports, interacting with sponsors in person or via emails, and prepare proposals
- Maintain computing workstations, assist in training new users as needed, and keep up with documentation of laboratory activities and related data as records
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, or related field.
- Experience with the ability to manage and mentor undergraduates, Masters, or starting doctoral students.
- Strong written and oral communication, management, and team leadership.
- Extensive post-graduate preparation in transportation safety, micromobility, travel behavior, transportation datasets.
- Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of scientific and technical personnel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to work with internal and external collaborators to contribute and facilitate progress in research projects.
- Ability to coordinate and manage personnel from various technical backgrounds and integrate behavioral modeling approaches for new transportation modes.
- Ability to work with diverse datasets related to transportation safety, including qualitative datasets that include surveys or focus groups.
- Ability to deliver project presentations and devote time and energy under deadlines to prepare presentations to sponsors in written and oral format.
- Lead as Author/Co-author to actively publish technical publications, targeting peer-reviewed journals.
Work Location: Onsite at the University of TN, Knoxville
Compensation and Benefits
- Anticipated hiring range: $70,656
