The Department of Cell Biology at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Associate (Postdoctoral) scholar to join the lab of Dr. Laura Newman. The lab researches the biology of how mitochondria regulate innate immune signaling.

Responsibilities include:

  • Independently drive a research project within the scope of the ongoing research in the Newman lab.

  • Be responsible for analyzing and summarizing experimental results for internal and external presentations and for progress reports and publications.

  • Supervision of junior staff, undergraduate and graduate students.

Minimum Requirements
Education: Doctoral degree

Preferred Qualifications

Education: A Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Cell Biology or related field is required by the start date of the appointment.
Experience: Substantial expertise in an area of inquiry related to the research ongoing in the lab, such as molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, immunology, virology, or other related fields.

Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

Salary Range: The anticipated salary is $62,000

Exemption Status: This is an exempt-level, benefited position. Learn more about UVA benefits.

Funding Details: This is a restricted position. This position has a term limit of 1 year after which continued employment will depend on department need and funding.

Work Arrangement: This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
