Lab & Research Technician II
University of Virginia
Studies in Dr. Marto’s lab are aimed at understanding how genetic mutation or the action of small molecule probes impact the functional proteome, including protein post-translational modifications, biochemical complexes, signaling pathways, or how they manifest en masse as phenotypic or disease signatures. The successful candidate will work closely with senior lab personnel to design and implement experiments to quantify cellular proteins or PTMs as well as to identify on- and off-target binding of small molecule probes at the level of individual proteins, related gene families (e.g., kinases or other enzymes), and proteome-wide.
These proteomic and chemical proteomic studies span multiple laboratory activities including tissue culture, extraction and isolation of proteins and peptides, target engagement assays, activity-based protein profiling, biochemical validation assays, and analysis of large-scale mass spectrometry data. As the successful applicant builds skills they will be expected to work with greater independence to execute SOPs across multiple projects; significant contributions of data and analysis will be recognized through laboratory scientific presentations and publications.
Successful candidates will present data during lab meetings, accurately document results, work with PI to discuss experiments, assist undergraduate students and volunteers in the lab and work with Professional Research Staff and Research Faculty to facilitate further experimental results.
This role provides operational and administrative support under moderate supervision. It also involves planning and conducting experiments, analyzing data, and collaborating with researchers in laboratory settings.
