Lab and Research Technician

The Department of Neurology is searching for a Lab and Research Technician to support the lab of Francesco Michelassi, MD, PhD. The lab and research technician will assist in characterizing mouse models of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. The selected candidate will perform behavioral testing, drug administration (tail vein injection, oral gavage, intraperitoneal injection, etc), tissue dissection, routine genotyping and crosses, immunohistochemistry and primary cell culture. Providing routine, technical, and administrative support for research projects is expected.
The successful candidate will have a strong interest in translational research within neurology, with prior experience in experimental design, data assessment/interpretation, scientific presentation, and scholarly writing.
Minimum Requirements
The Neurology Department will be hiring into the following job profiles below based on qualifications and experience (working title: Lab and Research Technician):
Laboratory Research Operations and Service 2
- Education: Associate's degree required; may accept equivalent combination of experience, education, certification in lieu of degree.
- Experience: 2+ years of lab experience which may include student experience.
Laboratory Research Operations and Service 3
- Education: Bachelor's degree required, may accept combination of experience/education/certification in lieu of degree.
- Experience: 1+ year of relevant lab experience required.
Physical Demands
This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.

- This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
