The School of Nursing has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary Bilingual Research Coordinator (0.5 FTE) to join their team.

Working in a research team under the leadership of the Principal Investigators and Project Director, the Research Coordinator will play a critical role in the implementation, maintenance, and overall management of several complex data collection protocols as a part of an NIH-funded, longitudinal research project. This role is half-time (50% FTE). This project will recruit approximately 250 English- and Spanish-speaking mother-child dyads who previously participated in a study in which half of the study families received a parenting-focused intervention. The current study is a follow-up study designed to test whether this parenting intervention (delivered in infancy) had a positive impact on the subsequent health of the mother-child dyads. If we learn that this parenting program has benefits that extend to physical health, it could be offered to families more broadly.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sample recruitment of a primarily low-income, racially diverse sample of English- and Spanish-speaking mother-child dyads who participated in the previous Moms & Babies Program/ Programa Para Mamás & Bebés.
  • Complex data collection including interview questions, videotaped mother-child interaction, health assessments, and biological specimen collection.
  • Quality assurance/improvement, data management, and reporting.

    Data Collection (50%)

  • Schedule, coordinate, and complete two in-person, on-campus study visits occurring when the child is approximately 5-6 years old and 7-8 years old, as well as several follow-up research activities that occur remotely. Schedule, coordinate, and complete in-home and independent study visits for participants unable to travel to UW.
  • Implement and maintain complex in-person data collection protocols as well as performing follow-up tasks. Research activities include conducting health-focused assessments with the mother-child dyads, including (but not limited to) blood pressure and body composition measurements, skin inspection, nutritional status, video-recorded mother-child observational task, saliva collection, finger prick blood collection and blood processing, interview questions (mother only), and the provision and oversight of a monitor worn by the mother-child dyads for several days after the study visit to assess activity and sleep.
  • Perform supporting activities related to the data collection protocols including arranging transportation, driving study families to and from on-campus study visits, coordinating activities with other research team members, problem-solving scheduling issues and rescheduling.

    Sample Recruitment and Tracking (20%)

  • Plan, execute, and maintain subject recruitment protocols.
  • Contact potential study families to explain the study and answer questions.
  • Administer screening questions to determine eligibility and recruit into study.
  • Contact study participants’ locator contacts if the study participant is unreachable, to attempt to obtain new contact information for the study participant.
  • Monitor, identify, and re-engage with those families at risk of dropping out of the study. Develop and implement strategies for low sample attrition.

Supporting Activities Related to Data Collection (20%)

  • Drive study families to and from research visits.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance/improvement tasks related to the data collection protocols.

Quality Assurance/Improvement, Data Management, and Reporting (10%)

  • Perform data management tasks, including data review, scoring, reduction, merging, and the construction of data sets for in-depth analysis by research team members.
  • Prepare information needed for IRB modification applications, NIH progress reports, and scientific presentations and publications.
  • Implement, maintain, and provide overall management of all data collection protocols.
  • Perform related activities involving quality assurance/improvement and data management tasks.
  • Coordinate bi-monthly staff meetings. Provide recruitment and data updates to research team at meetings and through periodic newsletters.
