UW Medical Center - Montlake has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Nurse Specialist to facilitate the integration of research into the clinical environment. The person in this role will work closely with the Translational Research Unit (TRU) to coordinate, lead and support the operationalization of research in the UW clinical setting, including the Fred Hutch hospital within UW Medical Center's 8NE Oncology unit. This person will serve as a point person and consultant for research teams at UW, UWMC clinical service area leaders and Fred Hutch for questions and guidance for research implementation at the medical center. This person will evaluate workflows with special consideration of the impact of the research study in the clinical sites of care and will collaborate with the research teams to develop mitigation plans to minimize disruption in the clinical setting.

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Reviews research protocols and workflows with a focus on operational feasibility. Collaborates with research partners to streamline processes. Evaluates workflows with special consideration to the impact of clinical trials in the clinical sites of care.
  • Serves as a consultant and advisor for research and clinical teams in multiple aspect of research implementation. Collaborates with clinical and hospital leadership to ensure efficient and effective research implementation. Ensures new protocols are consistent with UWMC policies and procedures, equipment, supplies and medication administration guidelines.
  • Participates in development of order sets.
  • Develops training materials, conducts educational activities, and maintains training logs.
  • Writes, reviews, and oversees policies, procedures, guidelines addressing research in inpatient area.
  • Collects data related to clinical trials implementation including time spent of feasibility, number of clinical trials reviewed and implemented in inpatient setting, number of patients on clinical trials, and nursing care time spent managing patients on clinical trials.


    REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) or greater
  • 4 years of nursing experience in a clinical or research setting
  • Active licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Washington State.
