Job Description

Position Summary:
The Research Associate position is part of the Department of Sociology at Vanderbilt University, specifically working with Dr. Jenny Davis on a research project exploring the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in the music industry. The ideal candidate will possess extensive research experience, with a strong ability to conduct both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.

About the Work Unit:
Garland Hall is comprised of 4 departments including Anthropology, Climate Studies, Medicine, Health &
Society, and Sociology. Garland Hall has over 70 full-time faculty members that teach an array of
courses, and work extensively on research projects. The Departments host multiple undergraduate
events, several lectures with prestigious guests through the academic year, as well as various workshops
and seminars

Key Functions and Expected Performance:
 Data Collection and Analysis: Assist in the design and implementation of survey instruments; participate in the qualitative and quantitative data collection processes (40%)
 Survey Design: Collaborate with Dr. Davis to develop, pilot, and distribute surveys relevant to the research project (20%).
 Data Management: Organize and analyze collected data using appropriate statistical and qualitative software (20%).
 Manuscript Drafting: Contribute to the drafting and revising of manuscripts for publication based on research findings (10%).
 Lab Management Tasks: Provide support for various lab management duties, including coordinating schedules and maintaining research records (5%).
 Research Dissemination: Participate in preparing presentations for academic conferences and assist in disseminating findings to relevant stakeholders (5%).

Supervisory Relationships:
The position does not have supervisory responsibilities. The position reports administratively to the department Administrative Manager and functionally to the PI.

Education and Certifications:
 A graduate degree in Sociology or a related field preferred, or equivalent research experience.

Experience and Skills:
 Extensive experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative research studies is necessary.
 Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, or similar) and qualitative analysis software is necessary.
 Strong written and verbal communication skills is necessary.
 Ability to work autonomously and manage time effectively is necessary.
