Job Description
The research assistant will work in the Zaganjor lab in the Department of Molecular Physiology
and Biophysics at Vanderbilt University. Our lab studies how metabolites guide cell function and
how stress conditions such as overnutrition/obesity cause metabolic dysfunction. Primary
responsibility will be performing experiments designed to understand the role of metabolism in
physiology. Additional responsibilities will be ordering of lab supplies and equipment. The
individual will work under moderate supervision, set up, conduct studies, and contribute to
research projects following established protocols, including the appropriate recording of data and
reporting of results. This is an ideal position for an individual interested in working for 2-3 years
with the goal of pursuing graduate studies in the future.
Following laboratory protocols and safety regulations
Performing related laboratory maintenance such as ordering supplies and managing inventory, cleaning glassware/autoclave, preparing and aliquoting stock solutions.
Assist in the efficient operation of the lab.
Performing detailed and accurate documentation of all experiments and laboratory practices.
Performing mouse tissue dissection, collection, and storage
Conducting ex vivo sample analysis (western blot, RT-qPCR, IF, etc.)
Sample preparation for metabolomics
Opportunity to perform independent research
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, or a related field is necessary.
Experience in molecular biology, cell biology and cell culture are preferred.
