Position Summary:

The Research Assistant - Term position is part of the Center for Research on Inequality and Health (CRIH) at Vanderbilt University, specifically working with Dr. Julie Ward on a research project exploring policy approaches for safer crisis response systems in the United States. The ideal candidate will possess research experience, with a strong attention to detail and ability to conduct both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.

Key Functions and Expected Performance:

  • Data Collection and Analysis: Assist in the systematic review of acquired agency policies to identify and document policy language and content using specified data collection instruments and processes. 90%

  • Lab Coordination Tasks: Participate in weekly lab meetings to assure consistent processes across Research Technicians and other members of the research team. 5%

  • Other duties as requested may include assisting with training and quality assurance, data cleaning, manuscript drafting, or research dissemination. 5%

Supervisory Relationships:

The position does not have supervisory responsibilities. The position reports administratively to the department Program Coordinator and functionally to the PI.

Education and Certifications:

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree or current master’s student in public health or a related field preferred or equivalent research experience.

Experience and Skills:

  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Teams required; familiarity with statistical software (e.g., Stata, R, or similar) and qualitative analysis software useful but not required.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work autonomously and manage time effectively.

  • Experience in conducting content review for qualitative and quantitative research studies, preferred.
