The Role

As a DevOps Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining the automation, tooling, pipelines, and cloud infrastructure that enable fast, secure, and reliable software delivery.

You will work closely with development, architecture, operations, and security teams to support continuous delivery, improve developer experience, and ensure production systems are stable, observable, and scalable.

This role supports the Whitespace Infrastructure Team, working on the Whitespace product.

As a DevOps Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining the automation, tooling, pipelines, and cloud infrastructure that enable fast, secure, and reliable software delivery.

Essential

  • Hands‑on experience with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms, particularly Azure and/or AWS
  • Experience using Infrastructure as Code, with Ansible preferred
  • Experience with either Docker OR Kubernetes
  • Strong scripting skills using PowerShell, Bash, or Python
  • Solid understanding of networking, security principles, and Linux/Windows systems
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure or pipeline issues

Desirable

  • Experience with service mesh technologies, API gateways, or ingress controllers
  • Background working in regulated or enterprise environments
  • Knowledge of SRE principles such as error budgets and capacity planning
  • Experience with FinOps or cloud cost optimisation
  • Relevant certifications (Azure, AWS, GCP, Kubernetes CKA/CKAD, Terraform Associate)

Education and Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
  • Relevant cloud or DevOps certifications are beneficial but not essential

CI/CD and Automation

  • Build, maintain, and optimise CI/CD pipelines to support fast, repeatable deployments
  • Automate build, test, deployment, and environment provisioning processes
  • Work with engineering teams to promote best practices in branching strategies, build automation, and release management

Cloud Infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code

  • Design, deploy, and operate cloud infrastructure across Azure and AWS
  • Use Infrastructure as Code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Bicep, ARM, or CloudFormation to manage and version‑control environments
  • Build scalable, resilient, and cost‑effective platforms supporting multiple teams

Containerisation and Orchestration

  • Build and maintain containerised workloads using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Support managed Kubernetes platforms such as AKS, EKS, or GKE
  • Ensure container images are secure, compliant, and standardised

Monitoring, Observability, and Reliability

  • Implement and support logging, monitoring, tracing, and alerting using tools such as Datadog, Dynatrace, or Azure Monitor
  • Contribute to SRE practices including SLIs, SLOs, performance tuning, and incident response
  • Participate in on‑call rotations where required

Security and DevSecOps

  • Integrate security scanning into CI/CD pipelines, including SAST, DAST, dependency, and container scanning
  • Manage secrets securely using tools such as Azure Key Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, or Vault
  • Ensure infrastructure, pipelines, and deployments comply with security standards and controls

Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with developers, QA, operations, and support teams to improve development velocity and system reliability
  • Produce clear documentation, run knowledge‑sharing sessions, and support delivery teams
  • Identify and implement tooling improvements to reduce friction and increase automation
