We're looking for a pragmatic developer who sees code as a tool for solving problems, not an end in itself.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 5+ years of production Node.js experience, with deep understanding of async patterns, event loops, and performance optimization
  • Proven experience building REST APIs from scratch—not just consuming them
  • Experience designing BFF architectures or API gateways
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (Copilot, Claude, Cursor, or similar) and a genuine interest in pushing these tools further
  • Strong opinions on API design

Preferred

  • Ability to read and understand .NET/C# codebases well enough to translate business logic into Node
  • Experience with agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar)
  • Background in migrating legacy systems to modern stacks
  • Understanding of authentication patterns (OAuth, JWT, API keys)
  • Extensive experience with Kubernetes
  • Good to Have
  • React, Next.js, or Angular experience
  • Python proficiency
  • Exposure to GraphQL, gRPC, or event-driven architectures

How You Work

You're comfortable using AI to accelerate your thinking—not just your typing. You use tools like Claude or Copilot to explore unfamiliar codebases, draft implementation plans, and generate boilerplate. But you also know when to step back and think without assistance. You're pragmatic about what AI can and can't do today.

You don't wait for perfect requirements. You dig into legacy code, ask questions, and figure out what the system actually does versus what the documentation says.

What You'll Actually Do

  • Build Node.js APIs from scratch—designing schemas, defining contracts, implementing business logic, and owning the full lifecycle
  • Analyze existing .NET services, understand their behavior, and rebuild them in Node with improved architecture
  • Design and implement Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) layers and API gateways using REST patterns
  • Integrate AI tooling into your workflow for understanding codebases, planning technical work, and executing through agentic coding practices
  • Collaborate with teams to define API standards, error handling patterns, and documentation practices
  • Review code, mentor developers, and contribute to engineering culture

The AI Aspect

This is non-negotiable, you need to be actively exploring where AI can eliminate tedious work. We expect you to experiment with AI tools, identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks, and push the boundaries of what you can delegate. If you're not regularly discovering new ways to make AI do the boring parts, you're not the right fit.
