About the DSCA Team:
The Documenting Software Creation Achievements (DSCA) Team is dedicated to creating a highly organized and accessible record of the company’s software innovations. We maintain a comprehensive internal digital archive and craft well-structured public-facing content that highlights our technical achievements and market impact, reinforcing our thought leadership and brand authority.
Position Overview:
As a Technical Writer and Documentation Intern, you will play a critical role in transforming raw technical information into clear, concise, and compelling documentation and narratives. You will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and the SEO & Content Strategy Research Interns to produce high-quality manuals, technical summaries, architectural overviews, executive summaries, and innovation impact stories.
Your work will ensure that internal teams have easy access to organized knowledge and that external audiences appreciate the business value and innovation behind our software portfolio through engaging and accessible content.
Key Responsibilities
- Information Gathering & Collaboration
- Work closely with software engineers, developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to collect comprehensive technical insights.
- Conduct interviews, technical briefings, and research sessions to understand software architecture, features, and innovations.
- Documentation Development
- Create clear, concise, and user-friendly technical manuals, quick-reference guides, FAQs, and training materials tailored for internal audiences.
- Develop structured summaries and overviews covering software architecture, design rationale, innovation highlights, and measurable impact.
- Content Structuring & Organization
- Organize technical content intuitively for internal digital platforms, such as Notion or Confluence, ensuring easy navigation and content discoverability.
- Maintain consistency in style, terminology, and formatting across all documentation assets.
- Executive Summaries & Business Narratives
- Translate complex technical achievements into compelling business value stories for executive leadership and external stakeholders.
- Craft impact-driven narratives that clearly communicate the significance of technological innovations.
- Public-Facing Content Support
- Collaborate with marketing and SEO teams to prepare technical content tailored for external platforms, including the company website’s innovation portfolio and LinkedIn posts.
- Assist in incorporating visuals, diagrams, and flowcharts to enhance understanding.
- Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
- Review and edit documentation to ensure clarity, grammatical accuracy, and technical accuracy.
- Incorporate feedback from users and stakeholders to improve documentation effectiveness.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong writing and editing skills with a strong emphasis on clarity, accuracy, and audience appropriateness.
- Ability to understand and simplify complex technical concepts for varied audiences.
- Familiarity with documentation tools and collaboration platforms such as Notion, Confluence, Google Docs, or Markdown-based systems.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proactive learner, capable of conducting independent research.
Preferred:
- Basic understanding of software development processes and software architecture concepts.
- Experience or coursework in technical communication, software documentation, or technical writing.
- Familiarity with diagramming tools (e.g., Visio, Lucidchart) and/or basic visual content creation skills.
- Knowledge of version control and document management best practices.
Internship Details:
- The minimum internship duration is 3 months and minimum working hours per week is 20 hours.
- This is an unpaid internship.
- All applicants MUST be a university senior or above.
- We are a Canadian-based company.
- All positions are remote.
- We require mandatory meeting availability (depending on your role).
- Work hours are based in MST (Mountain Standard Time).
