About Team:

The Logging Platform team in Observability at Walmart is dedicated to building robust, scalable, and intelligent solutions for managing and analyzing Walmart’s extensive log data. Our team partners with engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders to develop advanced systems for log analysis, anomaly detection, and predictive monitoring

What You'll Do: As a Software Engineer III on Walmart’s Logging Platform team, you will contribute to the development and deployment of solutions that analyze and optimize Walmart’s large-scale log data. You will work closely with engineers and data scientists to build systems for log analysis, anomaly detection, and predictive monitoring, supporting Walmart’s operational excellence and digital transformation initiatives.

  • Design and implement high-performance backend services and APIs using Java (or Golang/Rust) within a cloud-native, microservices environment.
  • Take ownership of services throughout the software development lifecycle, including architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and ensuring operational excellence (SLOs, reliability, scalability).
  • Instrument and monitor systems using OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana to enhance observability, performance, and incident reduction.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to explain technical concepts and design decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of industry experience in software engineering, preferably with large-scale, distributed systems.
  • Experience designing and building backend services and APIs using Java (or Golang/Rust) in a microservices environment.
  • Familiarity with system instrumentation and monitoring tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a proactive approach to project delivery.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across engineering, data science, and business teams.
  • Passion for innovation, continuous learning, and contributing to a collaborative team culture.
