Position Summary...
As a Senior Data Scientist on Walmart’s Last Mile Delivery (LMD) Strategy & Science team, you will design, develop, and deploy advanced data science solutions that optimize Walmart’s end-to-end LMD ecosystem. This role is deeply hands-on and focused on applying optimization, machine learning, simulation, and GenAI/LLMs to solve complex, large-scale logistics problems. Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data science models and algorithms supporting core Last Mile Delivery platforms.
- Apply optimization, simulation, machine learning, and advanced analytics to improve routing, capacity planning, dispatch, and operational efficiency.
- Build and deploy GenAI and LLM-based solutions to support operational insights, decision automation, and planning workflows.
- Develop LLM-driven agents that enable grounded, context-aware reasoning across LMD use cases.
- Partner with engineering teams to productionize models, ensuring reliability, performance, and monitoring at scale.
- Collaborate with product, operations, and business stakeholders to translate complex problems into measurable data science solutions.
- Conduct large-scale data analysis and experimentation to quantify impact, evaluate tradeoffs, and inform platform decisions.
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders in a clear, concise, and business-focused manner.
- Contribute to data science standards, modeling best practices, and reusable frameworks across the LMD Strategy & Science organization.
- 6–8+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, applied optimization, or operations research.
- Strong hands-on experience with optimization techniques, statistical modeling, simulation, and ML systems.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and experience deploying models in cloud environments (e.g., GCP).
- Experience applying or building GenAI / LLM-based solutions in applied or production settings.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on ambiguous, high-impact problems in cross-functional environments.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to connect analytical work to business and operational outcomes.
- Advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in Operations Research, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related quantitative field
- Experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain, or E-commerce platforms.
- Familiarity with large-scale optimization systems, experimentation frameworks, or decision support tools.
- Experience working on platform or ecosystem-level data products.

The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00 - $234,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
